چکیده

We consider behaviors of output jitter in the simplest spiking model, the integrate-and-fire model. The full spectrum of behaviors is found: The output jitter is sensitive to the input distribution and can be a constant, diverge to infinity, or converge to zero. Exact formulas for the convergence or the divergence of output jitter are given. Our results suggest that the exponential distribution is the critical case: A faster rate of decrease in the distribution tail as compared to the exponential distribution tail ensures the convergence of output jitter, whereas slower decay in the distribution tail causes the divergence of output jitter. Analysis of Integrate-and-Fire Neurons: Synchronization of Synaptic Input and Spike Output

A new technique for analyzing the probability distribution of output spikes for the integrate-and-fire model is presented. This technique enables us to investigate models with arbitrary synaptic response functions that incorporate both leakage across the membrane and a rise time of the postsynaptic potential. The results, which are compared with numerical simulations, are exact in the limit of ...

Role of STDP in regulation of neural timing networks in human: a simulation study

Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...

Spike output jitter, mean firing time and coefficient of variation

To understand how a single neurone processes information, it is critical to examine the relationship between input and output. Marsalek, Koch and Maunsell’s study focused on output jitter (standard deviation of output interpike interval) found that for the integrate-and-fire (I&F) model this response measure converges towards zero as the number of inputs increases indefinitely when interarrival...

On the relationship between synaptic input and spike output jitter in individual neurons.

What is the relationship between the temporal jitter in the arrival times of individual synaptic inputs to a neuron and the resultant jitter in its output spike? We report that the rise time of firing rates of cells in striate and extrastriate visual cortex in the macaque monkey remain equally sharp at different stages of processing. Furthermore, as observed by others, multiunit recordings from...
